Why Become a Seller?

When you become a seller with 2nd Hand Land you will be joining a team of like minded sellers that believe in giving the customer the best they can get. The website endeavors to give the customer as much vintage and retro as they can handle. Some of it will be cheap and chic and some of it will be designer vintage in excellent condition. Basically this site hopes to be a giant collection of vintage shops from all around the country showcasing the cheerfully cheap with the pretty & pricey and everything in between.

Sometimes you may want to get rid of some stock, that’s ok because everybody loves a bargain. Other times you may want to sell a coveted piece of fashion past to a dedicated audience that is expressly looking for just that. That’s great too because we believe that every piece has an owner somewhere out there.

The website comes equipped with a budget, size and item search. Featured items and stylists’ picks. There are no auctions just a set price with a set postage price for everyone in Australia. International post will be individually quoted.

You take detailed photographs on a dummy or model and send them into us to set up your online shop. This will be only accessible to you and once your stock is uploaded you can start selling.

When customers pay you they will be paying through Pay Pal straight into your account. We automatically deduct our fee and the customer has already paid for their postage. So all you need to do is put the garment into a satchel and post it. The website will mark that item as sold and it will stay on line for a few days before disappearing.

We will be targeting the fashion world through print and editorial like Russh, Frankie and Oyster. Offering garments to stylists to gain maximum exposure. Advertising online on ´the thousands´ and VICE.COM. We want to offer a hire service for TV and fashion professionals on the website which you can use for certain items if you want to. This would work for those mad, out there fashion pieces or perhaps a period garment. And finally we hope to have a wondering stall at key music festivals like the laneway festival.

We will be featuring a new seller every month where we interview and find out a bit about what makes you tick and why you love vintage fashion. We have a newsletter for members and a blog to celebrate all things retro cool.

2nd Hand Land is geared towards a fun vintage shopping experience, linking vintage to a wider fashion audience and bringing tons of retro and vintage to the people. We want shopping to be a delight for the buyer who loves vintage fashion.

DELIVERY

Our policy on delivery is that the customer receives their goods 10 business days from the day they have bought them. Because we use Pay Pal the transaction should be instant. You should allow 3 days for Australia Post to actually deliver the satchel and the rest of the time is so that you can get to the post office, pack and send. If you estimate a delay please contact us by email and we will let the customer know.

PAY PAL & HOW WE PAY YOU

On 2nd Hand Land we use Pay Pal to pay funds into your account. This means you, the vendor, have to become a member with Pay Pal in order for us to do this.

Customers on the website don’t have to join Pay Pal in order to purchase your wares. Pay Pal can process credit card payments as well as direct debit without the need for them to become members. When a customer buys an item on the website you, the vendor, are paid at the time of purchase and we deduct our fees automatically. What’s in your account is all yours and there no need for you to pay us anything else. Below are the Pay Pal charges. It is up to each individual seller to add these costs on to the price of the item sold to cover overheads.

Pay Pal charges:

  • Pay Pal charges 2.4% + $0.30 on each transaction within Australia.

Pay Pal charges 3.4% + $0.30 on each overseas transaction plus there is currency conversion fees. More information here: https://www.paypal-australia.com.au/business/manage-my-payments/transaction-fees

LISTING DURATION

There is no limit to how long you can keep your items up online. Although it might be beneficial to take some items off the market if they haven’t sold for a while, just to freshen things up. You can still keep your items photos and all the information on your online shop. It will just be hidden from the public. You can keep an unlimited number of items hidden in your shop and you can set things up at your own pace. Choosing when it suits you to sell. E.g. Overcoats in winter, swimsuits in summer. You can control all this from the back end after you log in or you can ask us to do it for you.

2ND HAND LAND CHARGES

2nd Hand Land will be charging a flat fee of $1.50 plus 4% of the total price of the garment/piece when the item is bought. We will not charge you anything if you do not sell the item. This means you only pay fees when your item has sold. If you do not sell your item you do not have to pay anything. Items can stay up on line indefinitely but it is always good to rotate stock. You can choose to “store” stock in your online shop and bring it out to 2nd Hand Land later.

Below is a table to help you price your item.

LISTING YOUR PRODUCT

Listing your product is easy. We will do most of the work for you. We send you an excel spread sheet with all the details you need to enter. There is an example for you to follow. The most important fields are the size, condition and description. It is important that you fill these out with care so customers can buy accurately. The garment is to be matched to your garments photos.

You will need to take photos of your garment either on a mannequin or a person. Unless the item is a T-shirt it would benefit the customer to see how the garment hangs. Of course this does not apply to jewelry. Jewelry can be displayed on a form, on a model or flat. Please remember to take a few views of what you are selling and all photos must be clear photos. No fuzzy photos please. It would be great if all photos are 72dpi or "saved for web". Photos are to be 30cm x 40 cm. The photos are this big in order for the magnifying feature to work. If you don't know how to do this, don't fret. We can do it for you. Send us your photos and we will upload them on the website.
